Computer programs and systems are now available to support people who have writing difficulties. These include spellcheckers, word predictors, talking wordprocessors and portable writing aids. This book is intended to introduce these tools and help parents, teachers and writers choose the most suitable system.
This downloadable book begins by highlighting the writers who would benefit from using supportive writing technology and outlines the various approaches which can be used to help them. This leads into a detailed description of the various features of the programs under consideration. The third section compares different programs in order to help people decide which system will be most useful for a particular individual. The final section reviews the programs and other systems.
The following programs and portable writing aids are considered:
ClarisWorks; Keyspell; Microsoft Word; Pages; Talking Pendown; Talking Textease; Text Reader/Speak; textHELP!; WordPerfect; Write: Outloud; Writer’s Toolkit; Co:Writer; EZ Keys; Penfriend; PredictAbility; Prophet; AlphaSmart 2000; DreamWriter 2000; eMate; Franklin Spellmaster & Elementary Spellmaster; Psion 3c & 5; Canon Starwriter 350.
