    Story/Symbol Packs

    Story/Symbol Packs available from CALL Centre

    picture of three booksThe Story/Symbol Packs are a set of materials to help people develop interactive reading for young children with two packs of picture story books now available.

    The full list of books available in the packs is available here:

    As well as the books, each pack also contains:

    A Paper symbol chart, called Choose a Story, allowing the child to select their preferred story book

    Six colour paper symbol topic charts or ‘story boards’, one for each book

    BIGmack Tops for sticking onto the top of a BIGmack - there is a page of two sets of three pictures for each story.

    Macintosh and PC disks are also available for those who wish to print out their own charts using BoardMaker.

      • Click on a file to download it.
      • Once the compressed file has been downloaded, your computer should automatically decompress the files onto your hard disk. If you only see the downloaded file with the filename ending in ‘.hqx’ (e.g. ‘home1.hqx’), then you must double click on it to obtain the actual BoardMaker file.
      • Technical Note: the downloaded ‘.hqx’ file is a self-extracting compressed file produced by StuffIt. Depending on the web browser used, the file may be automatically decompressed once downloaded.

      For PC (compressed files):

      • Click on a file to download it.
      • Once downloaded, you must decompress the file (in .zip format) using a program such as WinZip or PKZip.
