The Family day is over for another year!!
This years event was another great success with nearly 120 people attending throughout the day.
From toys and games from the folks at PassITOn, to high end equipment from KeyCOMM, demonstrations of SMART board and touch-screen technology, Intellikeys games and the use of Morse Code, bubble machines, popcorn, milkshake, talking walking robots, an art table, video CD’s, Drake Music Sessions and of course the SMART Wheelchair - there was lots to keep everyone amused!
Throughout the day we were taking photographs, and some of these have been put up on the next few pages, so click on a link below to choose a picture page (Can you find a picture of yourself?):
Pictures of the day
Date: Saturday, 23rd April, 2005
Time: 11 am - 4 pm
Venue: CALL Centre, Paterson’s Land, Moray House School of Education, St. John’s Street, Edinburgh EH8 8AQ
The Day is run by staff from the CALL Centre, KEYCOMM, FACCT, SCTCI and TASSCC (specialist ICT and communication aids centres).
This will be an Open Day for parents and the whole family of children with additional support needs. Come along if you would like to learn more about (and try out!) software and hardware and specialised communication technologies that might help to support children with communication and/or writing problems. (Teachers, therapists, social work and social care professionals, or others, are also welcome.)
There is no charge for the day. Refreshments will be provided. Drop in, or stay all day.
There will be displays of information and materials, free internet access, and demonstrations of software on both Apple Mac and Windows PC computers. There will be opportunities to have ‘hands-on’ time on computers, with experienced staff on hand to advise and suggest suitable educational software – and to untangle you if necessary. You will have a chance to play with toys adapted for switch use, make your own cards, watch videos, play games, win prizes in our Treasure Hunt, and so on.
At intervals during the day, there will be activities such as ‘story time’ sessions using toys, simple voice output devices and symbol story boards; Drake music-making sessions; and a chance to ride in the ‘CALL Centre Smart Wheelchair’.
Please let us know if you wish to come, and tell us the ages of children you are bringing, so that we can be prepared! Please phone the CALL Centre (Tel. 0131 651 6236) well in advance if you wish to discuss any special arrangements your family might require.

If you would like to receive e-mail from the CALL Centre on a very occasional basis, please complete the form below.
The only compulsory field is the e-mail address (obviously!) but if you give us a little more information we will be able to target our e-mails to you even more effectively, reducing the amount of mail you get from us (in any rate we don’t expect it to be more than 8 per annum).
