Children in Scotland is running a series of ten consultation events on behalf of Enquire - the national advice service for additional support for learning. The events are part of Enquire's commitment to consult on and develop a guide for parents focussing on additional support for learning, with specific reference to the Additional Support for Learning Act and Code of Practice. The purpose of these events is to involve parents across Scotland in the consultation process, in order to produce a robust, user-friendly Parents' Guide.

    The seminars will:

    • engage parents in the development of the Enquire Parents' Guide
    • offer opportunities for parents to share and discuss their views and make suggestions about the guide
    • raise awareness of additional support for learning and the implications for parents, children, young people and their families.

The seminars will include a short presentation from Enquire and small group discussions amongst delegates. These events will be facilitated mainly by Enquire staff, with help from Children in Scotland, the Scottish Executive, members of the Enquire Parents' Guide Focus Group and parents. Copies of the draft guide for parents will be distributed to delegates in advance of each event

Who should attend: The consultation events are for parents and carers, and their representative groups, to have the opportunity to discuss the guide and contribute towards its development. These will include parents of children who may require, or are currently receiving, additional support for learning. We hope to have a wide and varied range of experience to inform the process.
